Just can't stop drawing lately!!!

Unfinished Film...(it'll probably stay that way)

So I've been super busy lately...but I wanted to post something. This is the pre production work on a short that I was going to do about a month ago. The idea was to tell a story in 3 shots. I'll probably do more of these...it was a great exercise. I'm working on a new film now though...which has waaay more than 3 shots...so this is obviously on the back burner.

i love technology

trying my hand at airbrushing in sketchbook pro...I understand now how Disney movie covers got where they are. It's like crack...you just want to make everything shine.

Okay this is exciting to me...these are just some sketches I did for a possible short idea...they're supposed to be self portraits to varying degrees of exaggeration. The exciting part is this...

I sent a jpeg of the designs to my phone, and then used Autodesk's (Totally worth the $2.99) Sketchbook mobile app to draw these additional sketches...with my finger! And THEN I was able to email myself a .psd of the file...because the app supports layers!!! I'm STILL geeking out!

So, Ive decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and start building puppets. Here is a little video of the first one. Its insane how rewarding it is to do this kind of thing.

This was for a friend of mine. It was a project that never materialized but I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's always nice to bring a piece to finish...I should probably do it more often.

I've been drawing a lot!

I've been doing a lot of drawing, which is great...because now I can actually update this somewhat regularly!  This is all just stuff I've been doing at work whenever I can sneak 15 minutes or so.

Rynda Gets Ripped Off!

Okay...so I did this after looking at Phil Rynda's blog and all of the wonderful black and white studies he has up there.  It's a total knock off, but it was a lot of fun to do, and it made me think about the whole piece instead of just doodling.  So this is what happened to me this morning. Yes, I killed something that was on it's back already and yes, that is my ass. 

Los Angeles, I'm Yours

I'm in LA for a bit to work on DJ and the Fro!  It's awesome out here, but NY will always be home.  Here are some old phone paintings (made with Brushes on the iphone) that I have lying around and a flash doodle page.  I know, I know...more Harry Potter.  What can I say?  I'm a huge effing nerd.

This is my thesis from SVA '06. There's so much that I would change, on top of the fact that I never finished....but all in all I think it's a good mark of where I was at the time, so here it is. For posterity.

So I've been geeking out HARDCORE on some Harry Potter lately and these are some doodles that have been borne out of that.  The blue ones are recent...the Hermione sketches on the bottom are from about a year ago.

Now that I'm doing character design I haven't drawn Brock in a long time. And I used to draw him every day, for hours! And what can I say...I miss the big guy. This is officially the most carried away I've gotten with a doodle.

I was just goofin' around. Here it is.

WIP

So, I was looking at Phil Rynda's blog at his beautiful warmup sketches that he has up...and I decided to do a warmup of my own. My only real intent for this was to loosen up, and try to turn off the thing in my brain that limits most of my drawings to things that will strictly work in animation. I just wanted to draw for drawings sake. This is just a section of an 8 by 10 psd file. My plan is to eventually fill the whole thing, adding a little each day. Anyway....check out Phil's blog philrynda.blogspot.com ...there's a lot of amazing work. I hope I didn't rip him off too much
